How to Brew the Perfect Cup of Tea Using Our Glassware

You see, so often we get caught up in our daily lives, we forget how to live. Once the day ends, we feel exhausted and, quite possibly, disappointed with the results of the day.

That’s why as you read on, we don’t want you simply learn 3 steps to a perfect cup of tea. We want to encourage you to look at brewing tea as a ritual that refreshes your body and mind. Instead of throwing a tea bag into a cup and filling it with boiling water, learn to appreciate the depth of the flavor and the rainbow of smells.

What Makes Tea Taste Great

Simply put, the principles of making a great cup of black tea are very similar to oolong or green tea because they all come from the same plant, Camellia sinensis. The difference between teas comes from the oxidation (or the lack of, in case of white tea) of leaves and stems (in case of, Kukicha tea). .

However, the same tea can still have a different taste depending on the maximum temperature and the time that tea leaves were immersed as well as how many times the leaves were steeped (yes, you can reuse tea leaves).

Now let’s make some tea.

How to Find Your Favorite Tea

There are two ways to go about it. You can go to the supermarket, read a few labels and buy a couple of packs of the tea you liked best. But we are going for a perfect cup of tea. That’s why we would argue that a far better way is to visit your local coffee/tea shop and ask for recommendations from the shopkeeper.

It won’t do you any good if we told you to pick our favorite blends. That’s the fun part and we are leaving it to you.

Smell the blends, ask where they come from and what they consist of. Maybe you will discover you like some vanilla in your green tea, or a touch of mint in your oolong? The best part about picking your own loose tea is that you can get 20 variates in tiny quantities and try them all.

The Perfect Glassware for Tea

While there is a lack of scientific evidence to support the theory that material can impact the taste of the tea, a perfect cup deserves the perfect glassware.

Keep an eye on the temperature

As we mentioned, steeping temperature and time are crucial for the taste. That’s how you can get tea that’s too bland or too bitter. For white tea, green tea and oolong, you should steep it for up to 2-3 minutes, between 160°F and 176 °F maximum. Accordingly, you can keep black tea for a bit longer.

So, start by asking for the instructions when you buy your tea. They will know the best recommended time.

Then, on your way home grab one of those handy meat thermometers. Analog or digital – up to you.

When you do come home make the first cup of tea. Make sure to follow the instructions of the shopkeeper (or the ones that are on the packet). If you like stronger tea, lean on the hotter/longer side of the recommendations.

Now, every other time you drink tea, try slightly different time and temperature (but not above the maximum, though). Practice describing it. Soon, drinking tea will become a precious ritual opening a whole new world of smell and taste to you. Make it YOUR time and from that point forward, every cup of tea you drink will be perfect.
